Samsung has outlined plans for the future of its memory technology. The company’s latest announcement includes an 8Gb GDDR6, 12Gb GDDR7 and 16G DDR6+ chipsets which it says will be out in 2019.
Samsung has released their first-ever teaser for the new memory, which is expected to be in production in 2020. Samsung’s next-generation GDDR6 memory will feature a 17,000 MT/s data rate and a 24,000 MT/s data rate. The third generation of the memory will be available in 32,000 MT/s.

Although DDR5 has just recently entered the market, Samsung used its recent Tech Day 2021 event to tease future generations of memory. The Korean behemoth mentioned not just DDR6, but also GDDR6+ and GDDR7, which are the successors to DDR6. DDR6 is expected to reach rates of up to 17,000 MT/s, while GDDR6+ and GDDR7 will reach 24,000 MT/s and 32,000 MT/s, respectively.

With DDR6, the doubling process continues, with up to 12,800 MT/s expected for DDR6, and 17,000 MT/s with DDR6 +. Samsung is collaborating with other JEDEC members from the DRAM and SoC industry to complete the DDR6 standard, which is projected to be completed in 2024, according to current plans. […]
Samsung calls its GDDR6 graphics memory, which has a transfer rate of 18,000 MT/s, “currently the fastest DRAM in the world.” Samsung aims to boost this to 24,000 MT/s in the 1z nm technology later this month, dubbed GDDR6+. The replacement, GDDR7, is still on the way, although no date has been set. The throughput should rise by a third to 32,000 MT/s as a result of this. Another aspect of GDDR7 is a “real-time error prevention mechanism,” which Samsung has yet to elaborate on.
According to reports, HBM3 will go into production in the second quarter of 2022. According to SK hynix’s plans, the third generation of high-bandwidth memory, HBM3, will have at least 819 GB/s of bandwidth.
